Epic Summer Story (5 glow in the dark manis!!!) + video tutorial!!!!
Ermahgerd you gaaiiizzz!!!! It's time for another nail art story! There's a 'tag you're it' challenge in one of my FB nail groups, and I was challenged by the lovely Leesha to do a summer themed story. Within a week! Five gradients.... five silhouettes.... one week.... CAN IT BE DONE??? Well yeah! And I did a VIDEO TUTORIAL to boot :D How awesome is that? So come see what I made!
So much work! OMG but I loved it! It needed to be really spontaneous and improvised, because I didn't have time to do all out sketches and concept development. Ooph! So it's not a flowing story like the last two, but it's still a lot of fun and I hope you like it :D
We start with the little girl from our epic day at the zoo, and she's making a sandcastle! Perfect summer activity, right? And such a talented little girl she is... I think mom helped, though :-p
Oh and be sure to check out the first story, the Epic Love Story, that was inspired by a wedding cake that Clairella Cakes made.
And yes yes yes! The whole story glows in the dark! I used Serum No. 5 Pure Glow Getter, Solar Power and Orange You Sunny for the gradient. I painted all of the silhouettes using black acrylic paint and my Pure Color Glamour #1 detail brush.
It's family fun day at the beach! Our epic couple already had a little girl, and now they added a boy to the family! It's called a king's pair in my country, to have a boy and a girl. They're SO cute, playing with the ball while their parents watch. Do you see how careful the girl is with her little brother?
And yeah, this one also glows in the dark :-p I used Serum No. 5 Pure Glow Getter, a brandless glow polish from eBay (it's hell to work with but glows so bright!) and Serum No. 5 Krypton-Brite. I'm a complete Serum No. 5 convert :D I used to use the eBay glow polishes for everything, but they're really hard to work with. The Serum polishes glow just as brightly but my goodness, they are so much smoother! Not speaking as a reviewer, I bought all of my Serum No. 5 polishes with my own money, at the Hypnotic Polish shop!
Dad LOVES his cute kids and is having some guy time with his son. Ofcourse in a moment when mom isn't looking, because she would never allow this! Don't drop the little fella, okay?
I used Serum No. 5 Pure Glow Getter, Glowin' Of Eden and Indi-Glo for this gradient. The sponges I have are makeup wedges from Ici Paris XL by the way, they're really soft and have tiny tiny pores, so the polish doesn't get gobbled up never to be seen again.
I spoke to one of my friends today who told me that for her, it works better to dampen the sponge and wring it out before applying polish for the gradient. We think it might have something to do with the sort of sponge, that this works better for some people. I tried it and it didn't make any difference for me, but if you're having trouble with your gradients, you might wanna try this!
Every day comes to an end, and this one ends with storytime. I hope it's not too scary, or he will have nightmares! Naaaa he'll be okay :D
I tried to make a campfire too but FAILED. I guess I'm not the outdoorsy type, not even in nail art!
For this purple gradient, I used Serum No. 5 Pure Glow Getter (yes, uh-gain), Awesome Blossom and Ultra Violet. I love how these polishes all glow in different colors! Way at the bottom of this post I'll have a collage with only the glow pics together, you can really see it then!
And when the kids have gone to sleep.... mom and dad steal away for a minute to rekindle the love they had in their very first story <3 They are so right for eachother, and they enjoy their beautiful little family with every single day. It really is EPIC!
I used Serum No. 5 I Gleam In Pink, Orange You Sunny and Solar Power for this gradient.
The way to make a smooth gradient: Apply white polish first, or I like to use either the lightest color or the least opaque polish as a base. Make sure this is really dry before you start!
Tape off your cuticles for easy cleanup! I use scotch tape for the part around my fingers and medical tape (the sensitive kind) for the sides, because it's more pliable. Take your makeup wedge and apply your polish in stripes. You can do this with any amount of colors, as long as it still fits on your nail. Make sure the stripes overlap a bit for easy blending!
Sponge the colors onto the nail, making a round movement from side to side. Also moving up and down a little bit to make the colors blend. Load your sponge again and repeat. Top coat and you're done!
